Following a season with TSV Havelse, former Bundesliga player Nassim Boujellab (26) will remain in Germany’s third division, continuing his career at SSV Jahn Regensburg. Meanwhile, club legend Andreas Geipl (34) is departing Regensburg to extend his playing days, moving to Regionalliga side Chemnitzer FC against the club’s recommendation for a post-career role.
On Monday, the Bavarian club announced the free transfer of attacking midfielder Boujellab. The former Schalke 04 talent was only tied to Havelse for the current season. His new contract with Regensburg runs from this summer until June 2028.
“With Nassim, we have signed a clever, creative, and technically gifted offensive midfielder who also works hard defensively,” said Jahn’s sporting director Alexander Schmalhofer. “He has gained valuable experience throughout his career and has really caught our eye with strong performances this season. We are delighted to have secured him and to see his qualities in Regensburg.”
Boujellab developed at Schalke 04, making 30 Bundesliga appearances. After Schalke’s relegation in 2021, the Moroccan was loaned to 2. Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt, but after only eight brief appearances he moved on loan to HJK Helsinki in Finland. He returned there in summer 2022 after the German season ended, winning the Veikkausliiga title in September. He never played for Schalke again, joining Arminia Bielefeld in the 3. Liga in summer 2023. After a second season plagued by injuries, he moved to Havelse.
Boujellab is Regensburg’s first confirmed signing for the upcoming season. “I am very happy to have signed here and I’m looking forward to the new season,” he said in a club statement. “I want to integrate into the team and help with my qualities and experience. Personally, I aim to reach my full potential and take the next steps.” The Jahn, relegated from the 2. Bundesliga, secured survival early in a mixed campaign and will finish mid-table. On the final matchday, they host promotion hopefuls Energie Cottbus.

Veteran midfielder Geipl will not be part of the squad next season. The club offered him a perspective for a post-playing career, but the 34-year-old, who made 237 competitive appearances for the Jahn over nine years, is not ready to hang up his boots. “First of all, I still have a huge desire to play football,” Geipl said in a Chemnitz FC statement, where he was introduced as their first summer signing. “This is exactly the kind of challenge I was looking for,” added the Upper Bavarian.

Schmalhofer commented on Geipl’s departure: “We offered Andreas a clear path within the club, but he understandably wants to keep playing. We respect that and thank him for his immense service to SSV Jahn.”
