Palmeiras remains frustrated behind the scenes, questioning the disallowed goal scored by defender Bruno Fuchs in the dying minutes of their 1-1 draw away against Remo in the 15th round of the Brazilian Championship.

The goal that would have secured an away victory was overturned by the referee after a VAR review. The decision pointed to a handball by forward Flaco López in the build-up to the play.

“I’ve reviewed it. From this touch, the ball falls to the player in white (Bruno Fuchs) to score. I am disallowing the goal for a punishable handball,” said referee Rafael Rodrigo Klein in audio released by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF).

In February, a similar play was also ruled out after a VAR review in the match between Atlético-MG and Remo at Arena MRV. In that instance, the ball deflected off the arm of João Pedro during a challenge with the Atlético defense before arriving at the edge of the box.

Then, another Remo player passed to a teammate near the penalty spot, who finished into the net. Unlike the incident in Palmeiras’ draw, the hand touch did not occur during the direct assist for the goal. Nevertheless, the referee invalidated the play after the review identified an irregular handball.

Palmeiras’ board considers the annulment a serious mistake. According to reports from Lance!, the club intends to escalate complaints made by director Anderson Barros after the match during a meeting scheduled for this Monday with representatives of the CBF.

Key concerns include the lack of consistency in recent refereeing decisions and the internal belief that Palmeiras has been disadvantaged throughout the competition.

“It’s unacceptable to have a situation like this. We need urgent action. It’s no use just accepting the rulings while such errors are made. The rule is simple: if there was any doubt, they should have taken the time to decide. It’s very difficult. We’ll move on, but we won’t let something like this slide,” Anderson Barros said.

With the draw away from home, Palmeiras reached 34 points and maintained the lead in the Brazilian Championship, four points ahead of second-placed Flamengo, who have one game in hand. The two teams will face each other on the 23rd at Maracanã, one of the last matches before the World Cup break.

For the rest of the Brasileirão, Palmeiras will welcome back manager Abel Ferreira. He served his final game of suspension against Remo and will be on the sidelines for the clash against Cruzeiro at Arena Barueri next weekend.
