Somerset has added South African batter Jordan Hermann to their squad for the next three County Championship fixtures.

The 24-year-old joins the team as Tom Kohler-Cadmore recovers from a fractured thumb, Lewis Goldworthy deals with a hamstring injury, and Tom Banton remains sidelined this season due to a finger issue.

Hermann will be available for the upcoming match against Sussex, followed by games against Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in mid-June.

“We’ve faced several injuries to key batters in the last month, so we saw this as an ideal chance to reinforce the batting lineup. Jordan will definitely strengthen our options there,” said Somerset’s director of cricket, Andy Hurry.

Hermann has amassed over 3,000 runs in 40 first-class matches at an average of 45.22. He made his international debut in March during a T20 victory over New Zealand.

Playing alongside his older brother Ruben, he wasn’t required to bat in the tour opener at Mount Maunganui, and an injury ruled him out for the rest of the series.

Last week, Hermann was also named in a South Africa A squad to face the England Lions in two four-day games at Arundel and Beckenham, starting May 22 and 29. However, he does not feature in the lineup for the subsequent three one-day matches.
