The Superferry took all three points from El Molinón, an iconic venue for José Juan Romero, and sent a clear message: despite having already secured their survival, this team isn’t going to give anything away.

“If there was a mythical setting for Ceuta to win an away match this year – even though we’ve already won some – to put the finishing touch on the season, there’s no better place than El Molinón,” he emphasized. In this moment of joy, the coach from Gerena posted the following message on his X account (formerly Twitter): “What the hell of a season are you having, MAJARAS!” (reproduced in all caps, just as the Gerena native wrote it).

JJR uses the term ‘majaras’ to describe the crazy season his newly promoted team is having, a side “that many had written off as relegated by the third matchday,” as Luhay Hamido often recalls, referring to the naysayers who predicted a quick fall. The reality is quite different: Ceuta has piled up 54 points.

‘Majaras’ was coined on the day Ceuta defeated Córdoba (3-2) in a midweek match that had been postponed due to bad weather, as Storm Marta made travel impossible. “We’re not here by chance – we’re playing very good football, with plenty of arguments,” the manager said in his post-match press conference. He also noted: “I’m not going to stop them in the locker room. They’re a group of ‘majaras,’ unparalleled year after year. Eight months ago, we were in Primera RFEF.”

That day, Albert Capa scored, and he holds a curious record: he is the only active player to have scored for the same team in four different categories – Tercera RFEF, Segunda RFEF, Primera RFEF, and Segunda. That feat is within reach for Aisar Ahmed. These players have experienced all the promotions that have launched the team from the Autonomous City.

Ceuta hasn’t let up or taken it easy despite having secured its place in professional football. The club is also handling the transition from this season to the next with natural ease.

The first step was renewing Edu Villegas as sporting director, whose keen eye has built competitive squads without spending a euro – and in some cases, generating profits. Examples include Sixtus (€400,000), Chris Uche (€500,000), and Efe Aghama (close to €1 million). This is undoubtedly one of the most successful operations by the Jerez native, making a tidy sum on a player who, just two months earlier, had only played eleven games in Segunda RFEF with Lleida UD (later dissolved).

Efe before signing for Cádiz. He is now at Huesca.

With this normality, the club has accepted that Rubén Díez and Youness have committed to other clubs starting June 30. The ‘majaras’ of Ceuta will reinvent themselves once again. This is a formula they’ve been perfecting over the past five golden years, achieving no fewer than three promotions in five seasons, surviving in Primera RFEF after coming back from a 14-point deficit, and now staying in the silver division with merit, great football, and plenty of personality.
